How to Recover an Archived Email in Gmail

Gmail has this unique feature – with the help of it potential users can archive their emails, instead of deleting them permanently. When you archive them, all the messages will be moved to a label called “All Mail.”

How to Archive Emails

  • To archive emails, you need to sign-in to your Gmail.
  • Take the cursor over the particular message that you wish to archive
  • You will see an arrow icon pointing downwards
  • Click Archive

Note: You can complete the task without moving the cursor over the message. Simply turn on the keyboard shortcuts and press the letter ‘E’. It will automatically go to the archive label. Remember, “The message will come back to your inbox when someone replies to it.

How and Where to Find Archived Messages/ Emails

The good thing about archived emails is that they won’t be deleted from your mail account. They can retrieve at any time, any moment. To do so, you need to follow the instructions mentioned beneath.

  • Messages that have been archived can be traced or found in the All Mail label on the left side.
  • Click on the “More” label, you will see the All Mail label.
  • This label contains all the messages that have been archived over the course of time.

How to Move Archived Emails Back to Inbox

If no one has sent or replied to that email or thread, you can retrieve the archived messages by –

  • Signing in to the Gmail account
  • Finding the All Mail label
  • Check the box next to the message
  • You will see Move to Inbox icon at the top
  • Click on it and the job is done

Archive Messages on Android Device

For an Android device, the technique is different.

  • On your Android device, open the Gmail App
  • Tap Menu (in the top left)
  • From there, click Settings
  • Now click General Settings and then Gmail default action
  • Tap Archive
  • Confirm before archiving under the Action confirms section
